So I have been useing spinning reels and I have been thinking about tring out a baitcaster, the only thing I am worried about is the back lash that every one hates.

what is a good reel to start out with? and how can I for the most part avoid back lash?

    and are these good combos?

Those are pretty decent. You don't want to spend too much on a first time bait caster, simply because you may decide you just don't like it. Backlash will go away with practice. You can set the brakes on your Baitcaster until you get used to the feel of it. But you can't really avoid backlash without practice. On the other hand you can do a spin cast reel, but I'm not too fond of those myself. Of course thats just me.

I personally like Abu-Garcia reels. Something like this here would be good for you. They are durable and fairly low maintenance.

They look reasonable enough for a first time baitcast reel. If you do stick with baitcasters and enough practice casting plugs in your backyard your accuracy will improve dramatically when your on the water. Start with 8-10 lb. mono, stren has good casting features. I started with the old abu garcias and worked my way up to reels with more features needed for saltwater fishing. To avoid backlash, you can thumb the spool as you are casting and try not to overpower the rod when you cast. If you have backlash, slowly pick out the loops that were created and a small pic comes in handy.

    Good luck.
