In other words, how can I feel the bite and fish the jig so that I'm more successful.

Just takes practice and going out with someone who knows what they're doing. Gaining all the knowledge you can will go a long way in becoming more successful.

Also, using the right rod in jig fishing is very important. Go to your local fishing store, tell them what/how/where you're fishing for, and ask for suggestions on buying the right rod.

Patient is the key to jig fishing. When jig fishing a fish will just bump the bait, then slightly move your line. That is when you set the hook.It take some practice but the more you try the better you will get at it. Try reading some of these links to see if it will provide some more help.Good Luck.

make sure u always have a very tight line and use a sensitive rod such as an ugly stick they work very well when using baits such as worms Texas rig (although not completely necessary)
    shaky heads and fineness fishing.

and do not use braid use light Suffix siege such as 8 to 10 lb
the reason i say suffix siege is b/ec it works very well if you r fishing around rocks, brush. etc. and due to sieges high corrosion and abrasion resistance it works very well 4 this.

this technique can be deadly when jig fishing seeing that i caught an 9.47lb bass and multiple 7lb + bass doing this

as for colors i use natural colors when fishing in clear or lightly murky water or blue and black or this kind of color http://www.evercastlures.com/crawdad.JPG

i like to use the ones in the pic with the green 4 murky water

I am a Jig fisherman. and have been successful at it for many years. The best advice I can give you is to spool up with blue fluorescent 17 to 20 lb test line. Become a line watcher. It is imperative that you watch your line intensely as you work the jig and letting it fall. On most large fish you will never "feel" them, but the line will either jump or move left or right or back at you. The fish has the jig at that point and you should set the hook hard. The fluorescent line will make the line more visible to your eye than other lines and it will not affect the bite.
    Go get em.

Feeling a bite can be tricky if you're using mono fishing line. Mono line has more stretch in it than many other lines on the market. Try flourocarbon. Berkley Vanish is one of my favorites. Not only is the stretch lower, but it is nearly invisible in the water, making your bait look more natural. Use a heavy line, 15 pound test to 25 pound test, and set the hook HARD! Next, add a little spice, like a pork frog chunk. The bass will hold your bait a little longer giving you more time to set the hook. The last thing would be to either keep your finger on the line as you work the bait, or choke up on the rod a little and put your finger directly on the exposed blank (the part before the handle). You will feel even the slightest of nibbles this way. As a side note, be sure to use a longer rod (6'6'' - 7') and be sure it has a stiff flex, it helps the jig penetrate the boney upper jaw of the mouth better.

Practice..practice..practice. AND read everything you can on the subject. Talk to other fisherman, most fisherman are glad to share their knowledge.
