I've just taken up float fishing on my local canal and I can't seem to get my bait to sink.
I've got 3lb main line, with 2lb nylon leader to size 18 barbless hook. On the end I put 2 maggots (stored in a bait tub with sawdust in a fridge). I use a waggler float weighted with the recommended shot and some small shot on the main line between the float and the leader, but when I cast in the nylon and maggots just float on the surface of the water. How do I get them to drop? |

you need more weight on your line ,just keep putting more shot on try bigger ones or you can buy a weight that u put on the bottom of line to keep ur bait down at the fishing shop

The answer is to place one very small weight about six to eight inches above the hook, they will sink, honestly.

theres two ways you could do this you could put a small amount of washing up liqiud on your leader two the hook this breaks the water tension and makes it sink or you can put a tiny wieght about 1 inch from the hook hope this helps

Id say just put more weight on there untill they dont float back up. Are you talking about wax worms or maggots? Cause maggots are nasty.

ignore some of these der brains when you shot your float put locking shot one either side of the float then half way from float to hook put shot then two to three inches from the hook put another the one which is half way down should be twice as heavy as the one closest to the hook so a no8 by the hook put a no6 half way down also put some washing up liquid on the line this cuts surface tension on the line when it enters the water and will help it sink more quickly
