This is my set up
abu garcia cardinal 400 6'6" berkley lightning rod classic 30# test abu garcia cardinal 800 7' ugly stik 65# test i dont like the 65 pound test it feels to stiff, so i am going to put the 30 pound test on that set up and use new line on my other rod i am wanting to use it like a finese set up, useing light jigs and light weight on a texas rig as well use unweighted i am mainly fishing large mouth bass but i resectly found a lake with catfish, and bluegil i also found a nice river with bass, catfish, panfish, gar, and some other fish im thinking about stren mono (clear blue or clear) 10# test im also thinking about trilene and floroucarbon what do you guys recomend? |

Well, in my opinion the brand of isnt as important as the lb. test. I say go with 10 or 12lb.!!!

Colorwise, it doesn't matter one bit if it's clear, blue, or green
I like 10-12 pound stren or trilene --- whatever is on sale I'd probably prefer stren though |

if its just for bass and other small fish...your line is way too big....but if you still want something big but light...use spider wire...20lbs test is like 10 to 12lbs in diameter...still is smooth too..so spider wire is my say

10# MonoF.should be plenty
as mentioned a braided line can be much heavier rated and still feel and react like a very light line. (I use power pro 30# it's equivalent to 8-10 mono) |

I like the P-line or the stren in 12 to 14 lb test for bass-color not very important.

I just went fishing yesterday in GIN CLEAR water that was 45 degree's and caught a mess of Northern Pike, Smallmouth, and walleye.
I used Berkley Fireline 4/10 with an 8LB leader of Berkley "Vanish" Flurocarbon. I was fishing some super CLEAR, COLD water and still managed to catch fish! Use whatever line you wish, and a leader of (your fav) Flurocarbon! I personally like Power Pro and Berkley Fireline for many applications. If I'm fishing Mono I usually use Berkley Trilene or Big Game, (in Green). (In my opinion), you would be wise to get a braid and use a leader of fluro. Hope this helps! Good fishing! |

Each angler varies from what they use to another, i personally like the light line approach with the drag set lightly, i would use 8lb but if you want to be safe go for 10lb test, modern lines that are good quality usually snap above their stated breaking strain. Since your starting out use 10lb as you get better you may want a little more sport give 8lb a try, sufix is the best line in my view, co-polymer is stronger than mono-filament.
